Q. Is underfloor heating more expensive than radiators to install?
A. Underfloor heating is generally more expensive to install. However,
bearing in mind the lower running costs, higher comfort and added value
to the building, the initial expense is more than justified.
Q. If I install underfloor heating, what happens if there is a leak
under the floor?
A. With underfloor heating there are no joints under the floor,
a continuous circuit of pipe is laid from the flow and return sections
of the manifold. A high-pressure test (above the normal running
pressure) is completed before the floor is laid.
Q. Can we use both underfloor heating and radiators?
A. Yes, control systems allow for hotter water for radiators and
towel rails, whilst warm water is provided for the floor system.
Q. I have an existing house with a tiled roof can I install solar panels?
A. Yes, solar panel kits come suitable for the various types of roof installations, i.e. flat, tiled or slate, it is recommended that professional advise is sought only from SEI accredited installers.
Q. Where should solar panels ideally be installed?
A. Solar panels should ideally be positioned to minimise the length of pipe run. Ideally facing or close to south and positioned at an angle of between 25 and 45 degrees.
Q. What Biomass?
A. Biomass is the term generally used for promotion of wood energy use.
Q. Are there special provisions required for the storage of wood products for energy use?
A. Yes, in general it is excepted that for domestic use wood pellets are used and the water content of all these products has to be controlled indry purpose built storage facilities.
